UT Strengthens International Cooperation by Signing MoU with Wawasan Open University

As universities that both implement distance learning systems, UT and Wawasan Open University (WOU) actively participate in the Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU), AAOU itself is an association of open and distance learning higher education institutions in Asia, where UT Rector, Prof. Ojat Darojat, M.Bus., Ph.D., has been re-elected as the President for the second time, serving for the period 2023-2025. Faculty members from UT and WOU have previously collaborated on various research projects in the field of distance education.

To further spread the scope of their well-established cooperation, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between UT and WOU on May 12, 2023, at 4:30 PM Malaysian time, at Homestead, WOU Penang. Accompanying the UT Rector at the meeting were the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Dr. Meirani Harsasi, S.E., M.Si., Vice Dean for Academic Affairs of FEB, Kurnia Endah Riana, S.E., M.Com., Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Learning Services, and Cooperation of FEB, Olivia Idrus, S.E., M.Sc., Head of the Sub Directorate of Public Relations and Marketing, Dr. Maya Maria, S.E.., M.M., and FEB Lecturers, Rini Dwiyani H., S.E., M.Si., and Halim Dedy Perdana S.E., M.S.M, M.Rech, Ak.

The UT delegation was welcomed by the Chief Executive and Vice Chancellor of WOU, Prof. Dr. Lily Chan, Head of the Centre for ODL Experiences, Associate Professor Dr. Dewi A. Sapuan, Dean of the School of Science and Technology, Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Sean Tan Koon Tatt, Prof. Abdul Rashid Abdul Aziz from the School of Science and Technology, Head of the School of Digital Technology, Ts. Dr. Andrew Tan, Dean of the School of Business and Administration, Mr. Prakash V. Arumugam, and Senior Lecturer of the School of Education, Humanities, and Social Sciences, Dr. Tan Saw Fen.

With the signing of this MoU, it is expected that there will be broader synergy in the fields of Education/Instruction, Research, and Community Service (Abdimas), including the implementation of student exchange programs, faculty exchange programs, benchmarking for the development of learning systems, collaboration in developing new study programs, implementation of the Merdeka Belajar program, and joint research and community programs.
