Universitas Terbuka (UT), as a member of the Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU), has resumed the AAOU Staff Exchange Fellowship 2023 program after a hiatus of 3 years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
As universities that both implement distance learning systems, UT and Wawasan Open University (WOU) actively participate in the Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU), AAOU itself is an association of open and distance learning higher education institutions in Asia, where UT Rector, Prof.
Indonesia Universitas Terbuka (UT), together with Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) Thailand, University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) Filipina, Hanoi Open University (HOU) Vietnam, and Open University Malaysia (OUM) Malaysia joining in OU5 Researchers held its annual meeting 2022 (OU5 Meeting 2022).
The Rector of Universitas Terbuka (UT), Prof. Ojat Darojat, was re-elected as the President of Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU), which members of the association include open and distance universities across Asia, for the office term of 2023-2025.

In performing research development and enhancing cooperation among the members of Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU), again this year, Indonesia Open University (UT) hosted AAOU Exchange Fellowship Program (EFP) 2019. The staff elected for the current program is Dr. Jayson O. Madayag of Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, the Philippines.
At the 33rd Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU) conference held on October 14-16, 2019 at Pearl Continental Hotel, Lahore, Universitas Terbuka (UT) Rector Prof. Ojat Darojat, M.Bus., Ph.D was elected as the President of the AAOU period 2020-2023 by acclamation through the General Body Meeting on October 15, 2019. Afterward, Prof. Ojat directly appointed Rahmat Budiman, M.Hum., Ph.D.
