Universitas Terbuka and Education University of Indonesia (UPI) Signed a Memorandum of Understanding

Universitas Terbuka (UT) and the Education University of Indonesia or Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) have formed a cooperation which was initiated with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The signing of MoU was executed by the Rector of Indonesia Open University (UT), Prof. Ojat Darojat, M.Bus., Ph.D., and the Rector of Education University of Indonesia (UPI), Prof. Dr. M. Solehuddin, M.Pd., M.A. The event which took venue at Universitas Terbuka Convention Center (UTCC), Tangerang Selatan, on Friday (19/03/2021), was also attended by a number of high-rank officials from both universities.

In his speech, the Rector of UT was thanking the Education University of Indonesia (UPI) for its involvement in developing UT all along for the past 36 years. Owing to the UPI predecessor’s triumphant works, UT continues to grow to its current state. The Rector of Indonesia Open University stated that it opens itself to work together and collaborate with various institutions or parties, such as universities, colleges, both private and state, banking institutions, education offices, and content experts. By collaborating with various parties, a higher education institution (PT) will develop and grow even far better. With distance education, UT supports the programs launched by the government which is intended to nurture superior human resources (HR) capacity building and development toward the year of 2045.

According to the Rector of UT, UT and UPI still have widely open and highly potential opportunities to form cooperation, including, among others, in the fields of education and teaching, research and publication, and exchanging ideas for the implementation of higher education institutions as incorporated legal entity (PTN-BH) for UT. Moreover, as the government no longer gives the monopoly right to UT in operating distance education (PJJ), this cooperation is expected to see UT to be more agile, responsive, and leading in performing its roles as an implementing institution of open and distance education in Indonesia.

The Rector of Education University of Indonesia (UPI) then affirmed the statement of the Rector of UT that the collaboration among institutions (in this case, among universities) is a must in order to realize the development of any higher education institution. More importantly, the Rector of Education University of Indonesia (UPI) hopes that the cooperation between UT and Education University of Indonesia (UPI) can be implemented immediately in form of the signing of Cooperation Agreement or Perjanjian Kerja Sama (PKS), so they can execute the work programs any time soon.
