UT Collaborates with AIOU Pakistan

Universitas Terbuka (UT) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) at the Council Hall, Allama Iqbal Open University (Friday, 10/18/2019). The MoU was a follow-up to several meetings between the two parties. The agreement was signed by the UT Rector Prof. Ojat Darojat, M. Bus., Ph.D with Bibi Yasmin as Additional Registrar of AIOU.

Also attending the meeting were the Cultural Consular of the Indonesian Embassy in Islamabad Deny Tri Basuki, AIOU Senior Officer Dr. Samina Awan as Dean of Social Sciences and Humanities Faculty, Prof. Dr. Syed Zafar Ilyas as Dean of Sciences Faculty, and Dr. Zahid Majeed as Director of the Internasional Collaboration and Exchange Office

AIOU Rector, Prof. Dr. Zia Ul-Qayyum, explained that Indonesia and Pakistan have a very long history of cooperation and have been well established. Therefore, UT's collaboration with AIOU is something to be proud of including cooperation in various programs and organizations, such as the Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU) and the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE).

In his remarks, AIOU Rector hoped that the MoU between UT and AIOU should not stop on the formalities but realized the signing with a concrete follow-up. Therefore, AIOU will send the AIOU roadmap to UT to be used as a reference in determining the areas that will be the focus of cooperation. The AIOU Rector stated that they wanted to learn from UT, including the quality assurance system that UT has implemented in all fields.

Meanwhile, UT Rector, Prof. Ojat Darojat, M.Bus., Ph.D. revealed that UT needed to learn from AIOU about managing a large number of students. In addition, UT needed to examine how AIOU manages teaching materials for 1.3 million students.

The signing of the MoU was concluded with the exchange of souvenirs and continued with visits to several units at AIOU such as testing centers, human resource development, and faculties of social sciences and humanities.
