Universitas Terbuka (UT) and Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency or Badan Perlindungan Pekerja Migran Indonesia (BP2MI) signed a Cooperation Agreement or Perjanjian Kerja Sama (PKS) on Monday (05/04/2021). The signing of such Cooperation Agreement was performed by UT’s Rector, Prof. Ojat Darojat, M.Bus., Ph.D. and the Chairman of BP2MI, Benny Rhamdani. The signing was held in Universitas Terbuka Convention Center (UTCC) Pondok Cabe, Tangerang Selatan.

The occasion later continued with the remarks given by Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, Nadiem Anwar Makarim, B.A., M.B.A, in a recorded video. He congratulates to BP2MI and UT which have successfully established the collaboration. Apart from that, he also appreciates BP2MI for its commitment to strengthening the protection for Indonesian Migrant Workers or Pekerja Migran Indonesia (PMI) through synergy in education and culture sector as well as UT that has become the driving agent that supports the realization or such efforts. Such synergy provides the opportunity for the migrant workers to improve their capacity building and knowledge which would in turn create extraordinary impacts on the efforts for their self-protection and welfare.

In his speech, Benny Rhamdani stated that, currently, we are embracing the 4.0 industrial eras and, hence, the learning system applied by UT is suitable for the situation. This cooperation creates the potential for the improvement of the education among the PMI who work abroad. In line with its vision and missions, BP2MI would like to create independent, empowered, and prosperous PMI. The cooperation of BP2MI and UT is part of the follow-up actions of the MoU between BP2MI and Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) of the Republic of Indonesia.

Subsequently, Prof. Ojat Darojat made his remarks. Now, BP2MI together with UT is once again committed to performing the cooperation as mutually agreed upon since the year of 2018. This cooperation agreement would provide the opportunity for UT to conduct the socialization and education to all the candidates of PMI who are bound to work overseas as well as to provide the training for the instructors of BP2MI who are assigned in pre-departure training programs that would improve their learning competence.
